12+ Painted Silkie Fertile Chicken Eggs Dozen+ 2 extra = 14. Condition is New. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION:  We are a small homestead and take pride in silkies and only sell the eggs to compensate for organic food and bedding expenses. While our silkies are gorgeous and it is always a great experience to watch these Fluff balls hatch. We do prefer buyers to be experienced incubators. Provided below are specific hatching instructions.
SILKIE LINE: All hens and Roos are from the painted but been known to have a black, partridge and or white chicks here and there.
SHIPPING: We take great care in packaging our eggs. Eggs are individually wrapped in a carton and then carton wrapped in bubble wrap in a strong secure new box that is marked on all sides as Fragile.
    Post Office Pickup Only:
We require a contact number so the post office can contact you upon arrival. To prevent damage to the eggs during the delivery I write “Hold at Post Office for Pickup” We only ship to post office and not front door since MOST of the damage due to handling or weather is from post office to front door.
HATCH RATE EXPECTATIONS: According to Hatcheries, shipped eggs have an average hatch rate of 30% to 50%. DO NOT expect all eggs to hatch. DO NOT expect all to be hens. While Our customer’s experience has been above that average hatch results, results may vary based on your incubation experience and more greatly on post office pickup. We have seen dramatic decreases in hatches on front door deliveries. Post drivers reorganize and mishandle constantly their package en route. Every three months we test fertility rate and hatch out a dozen eggs to check health, physical standards and color.
NO REFUND POLICY: We pride ourselves in communication and will go above and beyond to satisfy our customers. We provide two eggs a total of 14 to compensate for any damage that may have occurred during the USPS contact. That is why it is imperative to pick them up at the post office. We will not refund if NOT picked up at the post office. Please contact us immediately if eggs arrive broken. We require pictures and evidence for filling out USPS insurance claims.  We will not Refund once incubation starts.

Tips for a healthier Silkie Hatch Rate:
    ·
    Do NOT WASH eggs
    .
Egg shells are porous, but God designed them to have a micro membrane coating on them called “bloom” to keep potential baby chicks and their environment safe and clean. Bacteria has a hard time getting inside a dry egg. Washing dirty eggs removes the bloom and invites bacteria to be drawn inside the egg. And washing eggs in cool water actually creates a vacuum, pulling unwanted bacteria inside even faster.
    ·
Humidity should be 35 to 40% days 1-18 and 60-70% on day 19 to end of hatch
    .
    ·
Temperature should be 99.5° Fahrenheit. Silkies prefer a bit warmer at
    99.8° Fahrenheit
. This is Average = (temp reading when heat source comes on + reading when off) divided by two. Variance should not be more than 103° hottest point and no lower than 97.5° coldest point
    ·
Turn eggs three times a day until 18
    th
    day
. Automatic turner works the best. Wash hands but do not use anti-bacterial soup if turning by hand.
    ·
    Less handling the better,
try not to open the incubator
at all. Disruption in temp and especially humidity can cause hyperthermia stopping the heart and development. The most sensitive to change are days from 12-18
    ·
    On
    10
    th
Day Candle to remove unfertile eggs
. This prevents breeding of bacteria. A flashlight and a dark room is all you need. If it looks like a normal egg inside then discard. It should be dark and/or see blood vessels. If not sure it’s a keeper and wait till the 18
    th
    day
    ·
    On the
    18
    th
day stop turning and put humidity at 60-70%.
    o
I found using a cut down egg carton to stabilize the egg upright with air sac up instead of keeping the egg on its side promoted better hatch rate. Especially when the first chicks hatches and stumbles around, moving other eggs which disrupts the unhatched chicks. It actually exhausts the unhatched chicks as they have to reposition after being moved.
    ·
    DO NOT HELP CHICKS OUT.
It may be counterintuitive when you see and hear a silkie pipping and chirping out of a tiny hole and think it needs help. But silkies take a longer time to come out of their shell. Some take just a few hours after pipping and others 48 hours. Chicks may pip early to get oxygen but still need to draw in their yolk sack to button up their stomachs.
    ·
Keep humidity high and incubator closed until chicks are fluffy and dry
before removing them. Chicks do not need water right away and can easily stay overnight and actually their chirping helps the other unhatched eggs hatch.
    ·
    KEEP IT CLOSED
. If other eggs have pipped {crack or hole forms from the chick hatching} It is important not to open the lid. A drop in humidity for a brief moment can harden the membrane in pipped shells and/or cause the chick to stick inside the egg - making it extremely difficult to continue to hatch.

Personally, I found the best setup is an incubator with circulating air, an automatic egg turner, and a low temp alarm.
