    Tied for Title:
    World’s 1st Mint Colored Coin
1993 Equatorial Guinea, ALLOSAURUS, from the Jurassic Dinosaurs series. There are six different dinosaurs in this series.
ACTUAL coin shown. Housed in clear 2x2 holder. In my opinion, this lovely coin is uncirculated or about uncirculated, but I do see a few small contact marks and fingerprints so it has been handled at some point. Please see the photos for condition.
Mintage is unknown but I've seen some estimates of 25,000 pieces made.
Background: According to an article that appeared in early 2015 in a major numismatic magazine, (an article you may still be able to find online if you Google) the title of “World’s first mint-colored legal tender coin” belongs to the coins of two different nations. In 1993 Uganda and Equatorial Guinea issued the first legal tender coinage with coloring from the mint, and not done aftermarket as an alteration. A mint in South Africa created the coin series for both nations. The coins were issued in two different denominations in copper-nickel and in silver. These same series, Famous Places and Jurassic Dinosaurs, were repeated in 1994. Today many nations have issued mint-colored coins, including the USA.
    Palau
is often considered the first nation to issue colored coins but their 1992 and 1993 issues are actually fantasies. In 1994, independence from the USA officially came and transformed its fantasy coinage into legal tender. Papua New Guinea and Cubano would also issue colored coins in 1994. All three nations used different mints and coloring techniques.
Today dozens of nations have authorized mint-colored coins and the popularity of these issues continues to grow. But with this auction, you get one of the originals from the very first year of true mint-colorized legal tender coinage, 1993.

My Seller FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
Allergy Note: All lots come from a smoke free and cat free home but pre-owned items may have originated in different conditions.
About Discounted Shipping: USA shipping only. I am happy to discount shipping within 48 hours of the first purchase if you request a discounted invoice after your last auction concludes but BEFORE payment is sent. Large fragile items are not usually subject to this option because they often have to ship in separate boxes.
I strive to ship items via the least expensive way possible to save you money, and I utilize eBay USPS shipping for just that reason, but tracking will always be included because it is an eBay requirement.
Shipping and Return Policy: I can only ship to your official ebay address and I do not ship on Friday and Saturday or during dangerous weather conditions. If you pay for an item any time from Thursday to Sunday, it will ship on Monday. If you pay for an item anytime between Monday and Wednesday, it will ship on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Please bear this in mind, as well as the post office transit time estimates, when looking at arrival dates.
In over 20 years, my return policy has not changed. All sales are final - no returns or refunds unless there is a question of authenticity or a gross error in the description. If any thing you buy from me is not as described and photographed, you are entitled to a full refund of your purchase price after the item is returned. I do not typically offer partial refunds.
Payment Reminder: If you are new around here, you need to know that eBay automatically cancels a transaction when payment fails to arrive within the required period.
ABOUT FEEDBACK: My top priorities are answering email, writing accurate descriptions and fast shipping. Feedback is important but not my priority. I leave feedback only once or twice a month in large groups to save time.
Please do not make an offer or request a lower price unless the "Best Offer" option is available for that particular item.
