Bob Robertson was an 11 year big leaguer and key member of the 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series championship team. Bob was a member of the famous home run hitting Lumber Company of the 70s.
Bob finished his career with 115 home run and 368 RBI.
As noted in the inscription He hit the first upper deck home run to left field in Three Rivers Stadium history on 7-16-1971.
Bob Prince famously gave Bob the nickname “Mount Savage Strong Boy” due to the incredible power and long home runs Bob had hit.
During the 1971 NLCS against the San Francisco Giants Bob set a record for most bases in a game with 3 home runs and a double along with 5 RBI.
He followed that up with a very famous home run in game 3 of the World Series. He missed a bunt sign and hit a home run that changed the series for the battling Buccos. This photo is of him crossing the plate after knocking in Clemente and Stargell.
While Bob never won a gold glove his career fielding percentage at first base was .994. He was one of the rare players who could hit for power and field at a very high level.
