One (1) Brand New High Quality Turntable Belt for AR (Acoustic Research, or just A/R) Most Vintage Models.
Most Vintage Model, late 60s/Early 70s
If your A/R has the capstan on the
outside
of the platter, then this belt is not what you need. Contact me with the “Ask Seller a Question” link
These are some of the
coolest
turntables ever built. These have an awesome wood base, an almost perfectly suspended platter (suspended platters are absolutely necessary for the reduction of noise from the motor!). The turntable was made almost entirely from wood and metal. There is little or no plastic. These were a dream.
Frequently I get asked “Why are there no model numbers? Or Why are the model numbers so complicated?” The answer to both is simple...
Acoustic Research
was originally an
American
company, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The Japanese audio manufacturers introduced their philosophy...
Make a turntable with a set list of features on it,
Slap a model number on it,
Mass produce it,
Send them out the door and down the supply chain
(And there is nothing wrong with any of that, if you like some guy in an office, thousands of miles away, picking your turntable for you!)
The
original
A/R was different... individual customers had options and choices! Like
What color turntable base would you like (they offered different woods and stains!)
Would you like the upgraded motor, or is the standard one OK? (Most of the standard ones are still running, today!)
Would you like a dust cover? (If yes, the standard cloth one, or the plastic one?)
Would you like the standard tonearm, or an upgrade? (Some third-party manufacturers made tonearms that could be substituted that cost more than the whole A/R turntable.)
Would you like cream and sugar with that?
So, because of the whole philosophy of having the end user pick his or her own options, getting a precise model number (like a Technics SL-23) was not easy.
I know this, because I was in store management, and each of the purchased items when an A/R turntable was sold had to be taken out of inventory, reordered, and the profit on the bills of sale had to be figured differently so the customer could mix and match! I miss these days. I hate going to the generic, BIG BOX store and discovering what someone else decided I need when I go to look at almost every item I need. Like cocktail sauce on seafood. I have ketchup, I have horse radish, I have Worcestershire sauce. I can make my own sauce as hot or as mild as I like. The next time you get a chance, buy something from an individual and get what you need, not what the XYZ Corperation wants you to buy!

New, Artistic Audio Replacement Belt!
This is one (1) turntable drive belt that is much higher quality (better rubber means higher elasticity, longer life – the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail on it is .00) that those competitors who are selling belts like this for around .00. The " belt, and those in its price range are made in sweatshops for (Hoover, I think) vacuum cleaners (
no joke!
), where exact tolerances are nowhere near as important. The vacuum cleaner belt is
close
to the right size. If your vacuum cleaner belt is 5% too tight, do you care? (It still sucks, right?) If your turntable belt is 5% too tight, that is a big deal! Turntable motors are small, and more delicate, and not only are you asking for variances in the speed (speed = pitch in the analogue world), but you risk killing the motor in a year or two. Turntable motors do not grow on trees. Do everyone a favor, don't buy one of those inexpensive belts! This belt features exact measurements, something you cannot say for the five buck belts. The exact measurements of belts today varies slightly from those of years of production of these turntables. (I get weird looks from people at this point, but you should know the whole truth!) The primary reason is that the rubber made today is much higher quality than the original belts had. Higher quality rubber means higher elasticity. That means, in order to put the exact right amount of pressure between the platter and the spindle of the motor, the belt
must
be slightly smaller than the belt that was on the turntable originally. If the new belt was the exact same size, there would be too little pressure between the motor spindle and the platter, that might run now, but it will not belong before it slips a little every once in a while! I know some people, who are usually nuts about details, spend hours ordering belts and get them in and the "size is wrong". Some people selling this belt do get the size wrong, but when they get the correct belt (that is, one that puts the right amount of pressure on the motor spindle), the size isn't what they are expecting. Rest assured! This is the correct match for the turntables listed above.
