    Description

6+ Olandsk Dwarf chicken hatching eggs ie English Garden Hens. Condition is "New".
Friendly, hardy, rare and well suited to free-range in the confines of a backyard, this little chicken brings its unique and rare qualities from Olandsk, an island off the southeast coast of mainland Sweden. This little chicken might just be the perfect choice for those who would love to keep chickens, but have limited space.
The Olandsk Dwarf is a very small and colorful breed, known for their very productive laying ability. They are true dwarfs, and have no larger counterpart in poultry. There is no standard of perfection for the Olandsk Dwarf, although they breed very similar in style and type. They are considered a Landrace breed, meaning that natural selection and necessity shaped the Olandsk Dwarf for size, hardiness and production to suit the region. They have brightly spangled color patterns of red, white, black, and blue. In the US Olandsk Dwarfs have straight combs and clean yellow or white legs. They have a bright and social personality and are not flighty or “hyper” like many bantam breeds. We find the mothers like to go broody and hatch their own eggs and take care of their young. Multiple roosters can live together, which is wonderful. They can also be with regular sized chickens – they hold their own!
When purchasing hatching eggs please note, this breed can be more difficult to hatch and will easily drown at hatch if humidity is spiked to high. We do not incubate them any higher than 55% humidity at lockdown and about 40% throughout the first part of incubation, usually we completely dry hatch them (no water added to the incubator at all).
    History
The Olandsk Dwarf originates from the island of Oland of the southeastern cost of Sweden and said that their forebears were British Garden Hens that were brought over centuries before. Over time, the breed became a landrace, and natural selection and necessity shaped the Olandsk Dwarf for size, production and hardiness to suit the region. There were only 54 birds left in Sweden  before they were imported to the United States in 1989. The breed had diminished near extinction with dwindling numbers in their home range, but hard work over the last 20 years is bringing them back to more viable numbers in Sweden and the US. This is a critically endangered breed of chickens.
