    Description

LIBERIA- Iron Bar Currency called "Kissi Penny", "Ghizzi", "Khizzi", etc. Circa 18th to 20th Century. Used in betrothal and bride price, these circulated well in to the 20th century as small change, at one time one of these was the price of a Chicken. Often referred to as "the coin with a soul", if broken these had to be repaired by a smith to restore the escaped soul. A prospective groom would place one of these on the head of his hopefully intended and if she accepted the piece served as a down payment in bride price.  Listed in many works on Odd and Curious money, see Opitz, 2nd Edition, p. 59. Crusty red and black patina, mostly black, uncleaned with some old dirt adhering, but not flaking or scaling, intact and original, call the grade Very Fine. Sizes are aprx. 9 to 14 inches long. Great old pieces of Odd and curious money. They were plentiful at one time, seldom offered in groups any longer. We bought a good sized group of these about 25 years back, selling them for years at shows, first time we have offered them on eBay and we are down to these few left now.
We do combine shipping on multiple items to save you money, all items sent insured, much safer than tracking.
FEED BACKS- We no longer give Feed Backs for items we sell. Unfortunately eBay's Feed Back system
has become a joke, and a great time waster. Not giving a Feed Back on items we sell is not a reflection on the buyer in any way. We do give Feed Backs on all items we purchase on eBay.
