This coin was issued under
Uljaitu
ibn Arghun Khan (AH 703-717, 1304-1317 AD) of Ilkhans.
Ilkhans was a khanate established from the
southwestern sector
of the Mongol Empire.  The Ilkhanid realm was ruled by the
Mongol House of Hulagu
.  In the 1330's, Ilkhanate
was ravaged by the
Black Death
.  Its
last khan Abu Sa'id
died in 1335,
after which the khanate
disintegrated
.
Uljaitu was
the eighth
Ilkhanid dynasty ruler.  His name "
Uljaitu
" means "
blessed
" in Mongolian language.  He was the
son
of
the Ilkhan ruler
Arghun
, brother and
successor of Mahmud Ghazan
, and great-grandson of the Ilkhanate founder Hulagu.
He was
born in 1282
, raised as
Buddhist
, and later
baptised
in 1291, receiving the name
Nikolya
(Nicholas).  He was later
converted to
Sunni Islam
along with his brother Ghazan.
He was appointed as
viceroy of Khorasan
, and then was appointed
heir of Ghazan
since 1299, and was
crowned
in 1304.
He received
ambassadors
from Yuan Dynasty, Chagatai Khanate and Golden Horde in the same year, establishing an
intra-Mongol peace
.  Meanwhile relations between other Mongol realms were
getting heated
.  The new khan of Golden
Horde, Uzbeg sent an emissary to Uljaitu, renewing his claims to Azerbaijan in 1312.
He died in
Soltaniyeh in 1316
, having reigned for 12 years and 9 months.  Uljaitu was succeeded by his
son Abu Sa'id
.
