Description
CAMEROON- Eastern Fulani Area, Iron Bar Currency called "Losol, Tajere, Saka, Sasoreng, Tete" and other names. Circa 16th to 19th Century. Made of local iron smelted and made by the Batta and Mumuye smiths (Fulani subjects). Listed in many works on Odd and Curious money, Johansson P. 41, Quigin copies this, P. 87, Eyo P.52, #2-4 from right in the plate on that page. Rust patina, uncleaned with some old dirt adhering, but not flaking or scaling, intact and original, call the grade Very Fine. Weights vary, both a bit lighter or heavier. most are in the area of 300 grams. Sizes are aprx. 10 to 15 inches long. Great old pieces of Odd and curious money with good provenance.
