    Description

The AR-XA is the iconic American turntable! It is the first mass produced real Hi Fidelity turntable that an average guy could afford and was the inspiration for the likes of Thorens, Ariston, and Linn. I have upgraded and modified hundreds of turntables for my retired company Cryo-Parts... this is my last project. My first big project was an AR-XA as well so this is fitting. I intended to hold on to two tables but we are downsizing homes again so one has to go- this is it.
First for the table upgrades: the table was disassembled and stripped, the top was painted with a very dark gray metalic paint, the solid walnut original plinth was stained with a dark brown stain, then I added a layer of curly maple over the walnut 3" wide. The maple is set down so the dust cover can rest on it. The stock motor was not the desirable Hurst so a new Hurst was added- I made a slot on one side of the motor mount so you can move the motor for speed adjustment, it is spot on right now. The bottom of the top deck had damping material applied and then was sprayed with QuietKote (very effective anti-vibration material). All of the wiring and filter caps were replaced. The new power cable is shielded and the ground was connected to the metal top, new foil caps, and a new on/off switch was installed. The platter assembly is a two part like the Ariston/Linn offerings, these two pieces were damped on this table (see photos). The springs that hold the T-bar and the T-bar itself were damped as were the long bolts that hold the T-bar in place. There is a new Delrin pulley from Vinyl Nirvana which makes a nice difference in performance. The stock AR arm has a shorter mounting distance than a Rega so the end needs to be sawed off and a new end made- this is out of wood to mitigate vibration.
The Rega RB-250 is the perfect arm for this "Everyman" table as it was also an affordable option in the land of expensive tonearms. With a little work this can be a "giant killer". This arm has "the works", it was disassembled and cleaned the paint was stripped, anti vibration holes were drilled to the underside, the headshell was rounded and the bottom where the cartridge mounts was leveled. The two biggest upgrades were the wiring and the counter balance. The wire is the best in the world- Cardas Clear (it cost ft and it takes two feet) with Cardas tags and DIN- all cryo treated. The counter balance is one of the best I have tried (I believe I have tried most of them) and has two sets of weights- one for light cartridges and one set for heavy ones. The external cable uses Mogami wire with Eichmann ends and a 1877 90 degree DIN, all cryo treated. The arm comes with a nice VTA adjuster on it.
The table will come with the arm off and will need to be mounted.
The top is brand new having been taken out of the wrap for these photos as I have an old beat up original one that I used before.
Now about the performance: this table performs almost as well as a maxed out Linn and better than a base model Linn. It is VERY revealing and detailed and works well with both MM and MC cartridges.
Here is a video of this turntable playing a record- the cartridge on the table, the table the clock and anything else but the turntable are not part of the listing:

Here is a post that shows this exact arm being upgraded, disregard the comments from other posters that were afraid that I was disparaging their K tone arms, audio is a funny biz and many "audiophiles" have all of their ego wrapped up in it... as well as their money. This table and arm give very high level performance for a fraction of what they paid for a tonearm!

I have provided oil for the spindle well (there is a blue stopper in it now so it is not a mess when it arrives).  It also comes with a Discwasher with fluid, a brand new carbon fiber record brush, and a vibration damping record weight. There is even a bubble level and alignment tool to help you set up your new table.
It will be well packed, shipping will be insured for purchase amount CONUS only.
