25 Water Nipple Poultry Drinking-Valves Gravity-Auto-Close USA Ships-On-Day-Sold
Whether you consider your birds to be chickens, ducks, wildlife visitors, or just poultry, they need both food and water.  Each separately helps a lot, but both together is ideal.  These new screw-in gravity shut-off water valves are easily installed into 5-gallon bucket bottoms just by cutting an 11/32" hole, then screwing the valve's hard plastic threads into the soft-plastic pail bottom.  That creates a water-tight seal.
Little humans explore the world by hand touching everything they can reach. Birds act similarly by beak pecking everything they can reach.  When they do that to these hanging water valves, a bit of water is released which they drink.  While they aren't nature's quickest studies, they and their community soon learn that pecking these water valve centers releases a little water.  I don't know if they prefer clean water, but humans trying to raise poultry prefer that they drink clean, uncontaminated water which minimizes bird losses and growth hindering diseases.
If you provide open water for them to drink, some of them will poop in it.  Not ideal.
The valve is made from a plastic screw-in surround with stainless steel flow-control insert. They are very durable but every few years, lime deposits from hard water may cause valve dripping.  Mild acid cleaning over night can remove lime deposits.  Even apple vinegar is sufficient to serve as your lime cleaning agent.
If screwing into thick plastic rather than thin flexible plastic bucket bottoms, use a 5/16" drill bit instead of 11/32".
