    Description

Up for auction is a  4”  X 6.25” 1926 photo of William “Kid” Gleason, banging out fungoes at the ballpark while on the coaching staff of the Philadelphia Athletics.  Gleason is best know as the manager of the 1919 Chicago White Sox, who became known forever more as the “Black Sox” due to several players allowing gamblers to buy the series for the Cincinnati  Reds.  Gleason was not involved in the payoff and unlike the players involved continued in the major leagues until the early 1930s.  All photos of the 1919 world series and the key participants are highly desirable and difficult to find.  On the reverse is a CENTRAL PRESS ASS’N (rubber-stamp) dated MAR 23 1926 (Spring Training?). The reverse also contains the handwritten notation: “Kid Gleason Peping Up Practice”
Please note the following defects: 1j the bottom left corner of the photo is clipped which does not affect the image. 2) there appears to be three small pinholes in the bottom half of the image which does not affect the players or action on the field, you may notice them upon close examination of my attached photos.  3) there is a small tear on the top right side of the image which mainly affects the black border and just touches the actual image.
Please excuse any shadows appearing in the photos.  I can provide additional photos or scans upon request.
