    Description

A scarce & interesting silk ribbon issued during the 1896 campaign when John Elkin of Indiana ran on the Republican party ticket. John Elkin ran with Matthew Quay during Quay's 1896 presidential hopeful campaign. The ribbon has an engraved portrait of John P. Elkin (11 Jan. 1860 to 3 Oct. 1915). He was a Pennsylvania lawyer & judge. He served as an associate justice on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court & later served as Attorney General of Pennsylvania. Elkin was a central figure concerning influence buying on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
This ribbon has some wear, some soiling, slight creasing, a dust line, & age browning. The size of the ribbon is 7 13/16 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide. In over 50 years of being heavily involved with early ribbons & pinback buttons this is the only example we have ever owned of this ribbon.
