Disclaimer:
Hatching shipped eggs is always a gamble as there are so many variables that can affect their viability such as: rough handling during shipping, x-ray machines (even when marked not to), changes
in air
pressure/humidity, exposure to extreme temperatures, etc.
FEEDBACK should NEVER be passed on hatch rates, no breeder can insure hatch rates on shipped eggs. We ALL know shipped eggs are a gamble - a high stakes gamble at that. FEEDBACK should be based on the care that was taken with your eggs for
shipment
, quality of the service &
communication
from the seller.
We only ship Monday - Wednesday weekly.

At
“We Talk to Our Eggs”
we are blessed with Beautiful Pure Bred –
German Bielefelder Chickens.
We are a small Boutique Breeder of a select few rare breeds of poultry. These
Gentle Giants
are the
UBER
chicken of the poultry world! A true
dual purpose bird
, with very high egg yields (200-230+eggs a year per hen) they are early bloomers for their size usually starting laying between 5-7 months of age. AND the best feature of this bred is they are a
TRUE autosexing breed
, generation after generation – easy to see boys from girlsright at hatch!
Our stock is from Greenfire Farms 2011 & 2013 Imports!
The next thing that is truly wonderful about this breed is there
temperament!
They are easily the most docile, sweet, friendly,
affectionate
birds we raise. They are
amazing setters and mothers
too, so if you want your hens to have good natural instincts this is a great place to start. These mothers are so dedicated you will need to make sure they eat and drink while they go about their setting. I have watched my flock very closely for this reason & I do have to keep food and water very near them when they are setting for they will not leave their nest.
This is a rare trait in any breed of fowl these days & I do encourage setting with my hens to maintain the natural instinct. Inherent memory is very important part of the genetic code & it is proven scientifically that offspring carry a type of internal“memory” of their parents, for this reason I allow each of my hens to hatch a small clutch every year.
German Bielefelder Chickens
are TRUE dual purpose birds – laying 200-230+ “Extra-Large” eggs starting at 5-7 months & producing a hefty carcass. Males mature at an easy 10+ lbs., with hens not being much smaller at 8-9 lbs.
Easy to reach a nice butcher weight at 10-12 weeks!!!
EGG COLOR
is also truly unique if you are looking to add to your rainbow collection – they range from a light brown(or deep tan) to a rich mauve/pink, truly lovely LARGE eggs.
This chicken is a homesteaders dream!
All of our Poultry is bred to the APA standard of Perfection, or
SOP
.A couple of our rare/new breeds are not yet recognized by APA, but we are actively working with other breeders to make this happen. By carefully breeding selection and responsible culling we are producing show quality birds that maintain the breed’s temperament and expected production levels.
German Bielefelders
are not yet APA recognized.
Our Breeding Flock is fed a high-quality non-medicated diet consisting of both organic and non-organic foods - including an Organic balanced feed ration & supplemented with fresh vegetables, fermented & sprouted grains.
*HOWEVER
- Medicated foods should be considered as ducklings & chicks are they are highly susceptible to infectious diseases like coccidiosis, which untreated can kill them in as little as 24 hours. We do start our own chicks on medicated feed for their safety until 6 weeks old.
We collect eggs three times a day, candle, and sort them and then package the mall by hand;
we don’t wash hatching eggs – Ever!
Eggs have a protective coating called a bloom that works to keep out bacteria. Washing them removesthat. Once your eggs have arrived, carefully unpack them and
CANDLE each one
. If any of the eggs have hairline cracks, you can try melting candle wax and dripping it on to the crack to seal it or scotch tape works really well to and is a lot easier to do. This doesn’t always work, but we have saved many this way.
Allow the shipped eggs to sit upright in an egg carton (large end up) for 24 hours at room temperature. We recommend incubating in a carton, fat end up – for at least the first 7 days if possible. * Why you ask – there is almost ALWAYS some air sac damage done in shipping – saddled, detached, bubbly – setting them upright in a carton allows the embryo to develop without the disruption of turning – THEY WILL NOT STICK TO THE SHELL – this is a myth.
Should any egg develop a blood ring, begin to smell, or seep fluids
remove it from the incubator immediately.
We have personally begun experimenting with a “no turn” method on allour “shipped in” eggs and are seeing fabulous results so far. “YES” you can hatch eggs SAFELY without turning them. There are protocols to do this successfully, so
do your research!
(There is actually strong
evidence &
studies that indicate- turning any egg is damaging to the embryo)
